Practice Self-care During Uncertain Times - COVID-19

Updated: May 5, 2020

Social distancing can feel isolating at times - It is important to practice self-care during these times of uncertainty. Here are some tips to keep you positive!

Tips:

  1. Sticking to your daily routine is important. Wake up, shower, practise good skincare routines and get dressed. This will help you feel more normal during a time where we may feel confused.

  2. Gyms and fitness centres are closed but that doesn’t mean you have to stop being healthy and active. Adjust your routine to work in your living space, eat healthy, drink water and stay positive. Suggestions for alternative exercise - Try something new such as yoga. This requires little equipment and may benefit your health in ways you never knew!

  3. Sports are cancelled and let’s be real we are all devastated…. Keep yourself entertained with alternative activities such as board games, card games, or even reading a book.

  4. Being informed is important but oversaturating yourself in news is not healthy. Stay up to date enough to keep yourself informed with reliable sources, but don’t forget to take a break and not overwhelm yourself. TAKE A BATH

  5. 5. Contact your love ones – Although you may not be able to see them in person, your loved ones still want to hear from you. If you can, phone or video call them to ensure they know you are safe and to keep the love going around.

  6. Don’t overbuy – Think about your neighbours and the other people who need supplies but may not have purchased that 20 pack of toilet paper you are hoarding. Note: It is important to stock up in case you need to self-quarantine, but do not overbuy, the federal government announced there is no shortage of food/supplies. The supply chain is healthy and continuing to flow.

  7. Be kind – Kindness is also contagious, and this is just what we need right now. Spread the kindness and not the fear.

  8. Laugh – Laughter not only relieves stress and tension but also helps your immune system by decreasing stress hormones and increasing immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies. Who knew a good laugh could help us through the Coronavirus!

  9. Breathe – Our world has been through this before, we will come out on top.
